Environmental Design : Bus Stop Research

Several Bus Stop Design Research : 

Figure 1 :  An interesting bus stop design that weighing the 

weight of the passenger  who sit on the  platform.

Figure 2 : A Sprite advertisement bus stop design showcasing

 the theme on the advertisement which is "mad about TV" 

by sampling the sitting platform as a sofa. It does make 

the passenger look like sit in their own house. 

Figure 3 :  The normal sitting platform is replace by elegant

 chairs to suit the whole aristocratic feel of the bus stop.

Figure 4 : An oven-like design for the bus stop for fast food
advertisement. 

Figure 5 : 3M Security Glass advertisement bus stop design.
The designer put all the cash inside the 3M security glass
and make it as the side wall of the bus stop to show that
how safe is it of the product.

Figure 6 : One of my favourite bus stop design within all my research,
 it a kind of awareness design to propagate the social issue -
violence happen when no one is watching.

Figure 7 : This is a courier post service advertisement bus stop.
The side wall of the bus stop being design like an envelope and
the place for stamp is a mirror. Passenger who stand near
 to it will be look like becoming the stamp of this envelope. 

Figure 8 : Another favourite bus stop design of me. It is an Coca-Cola
advertisement bus stop design. Designer is clever enough to use magic
sticky as the material for the side board for the bus stop. Passengers
who stand near to it will be stick to the side board and automatically
will be direct to saw the advertisement. 

Figure 9 : Another Coca-Cola bus stop design. Whole bus stop
designed in a icy feel that make user think of the cold drink in
the refrigerator.

Figure 10 : The whole concept of the bus stop is consistent and
clear to show the product/brand.

Figure 11 : The design of this bus stop very attract the attention of
the passers-by. And it clearly show the product and brand.

Figure 12 :  It's so surprise that this bus stop was in Malaysia.
This bus stop features boards with bubble wrap with the
 PSP control symbol on it. It is possible to make most of the
passengers miss the bus because of focusing on pressing
 the bubble wrap !

Figure 13 : It is creative enough to replace the sitting platform
as a swing. I think most of us will be very happy while
waiting for the bus to come.

Figure 14 : An Eco-friendly bus stop design which save the
electric for the signboard. There is a switch for passengers
to switch on and off the light of the signboard to have a look.

Figure 15 : A simple yet creative design for bus stop. The back of the
sitting platform is a mirror which reflected out the McDonald logo.

Environmental Design : Information Counter and Information Kiosk Studies 2

Information kiosk :

The information kiosk is just a big rectangular board with the internal setting LED display which user can only perform one way interaction with it - only can see the information displayed on the kiosk and cannot type/search/communicate with it. There are a floor plan graphic displayed on the kiosk which is nice to show that which area are the user currently in and let user know that where and which direction should them go if they want to go another atrium. The overall design is too dull and hard to search for the information that user want to have because user cannot type a single words and interact with it. The placement of type 1 information kiosk is too high and those user whom are not so tall maybe too hard to see the content displayed at the upper part. Yet, type 2 information board is too slanted and too high also. The way the information kiosk slanted indirectly cause the user need to cross a step and bend down their body to see through the information clearly. Overall, I do think there is a big room of improvement for these two design.

Environmental Design : Information Counter and Information Kiosk Studies

Information Counter :

The overall design are in circular pattern. It is easy to see that the whole design for the booth is well follow the circular way of flow and it's in smooth circulation. If we neglect the other part of the information booth and only emphasis on the information counter, you can see that the information counter was in curve shape and compatible with the overlapping circle layers lamp which located on the top of the information counter and the half-circle shape banner.

The information counter itself is well follow the whole concept for the booth and it is well arranged at the edge of the booth covered area. The design of the information counter is quite simple with only one big screen inserted at the left side of the information counter and nothing else beside it. This could be the concept of "less is more", since the information counter is a place for other to ask for information nor looking at their design. And, the importance information and design is emphasis in the flyer/brochure that being put on top face of the information counter.

Lastly, I think the design of this information counter is suitable and appropriate with the location and brand. There are only one screen at the information counter for the purpose of screened out the graphics. The curve design of the information counter suit the location itself which at the corner of the shopping mall which the passers-by would like to turn around to other side. It's easier for the passers-by to walk across it while have a look with it. Thus, I think it is quite a suitable design.
